Endoscopic medical testing instruments and endoscopic imaging workstations involve significant investment, complex systems, high technological content, and demanding operating environments. Strict requirements govern their installation, operation, and use. Ensuring these instruments are consistently in good working order and perform their intended functions is crucial for improving the quality of medical services and achieving expected benefits. Therefore, proactive equipment maintenance is paramount. Based on the new concept of maintenance that combines prevention and treatment, with a focus on prevention, maintenance should include both routine upkeep and troubleshooting.

 

Like other medical equipment, routine maintenance is essential to ensure the accuracy of medical endoscopes. This proactive maintenance, also known as anticipatory maintenance or preventative maintenance, is crucial.

The use and daily maintenance of endoscopes are generally performed by the department using the instrument and the operators. It is a daily task and should be formalized. Its content should be included in operating procedures and precautions. The department using the instrument should assign a technician with basic instrument knowledge and a strong sense of responsibility to serve as a full-time or part-time instrument manager to assist and guide the operators in this work. Routine maintenance work generally includes:

(1) Cleaning the machine room and equipment; observing and adjusting the temperature and humidity of the machine room to ensure stability.

(2) Checking the mechanical, rotating, air, and water systems of the machine, as well as the screws and nuts, to ensure they are functioning properly.

(3) Checking the switches, knobs, indicator lights, instruments, and displayed parameters on the instrument surface to ensure they are functioning properly.

(4) Before formal operation, using the instrument's self-test program to check the status of each part of the instrument.

(5) Paying attention to any abnormal odors or sounds during instrument operation, and checking the image quality.

(6) Checking whether the operator's operation of the instrument conforms to the procedures and correcting any errors promptly.

Because medical endoscopes are invasive diagnostic tools, those who use them have undergone rigorous training and assessment.

Endoscope troubleshooting is also known as passive maintenance (endoscope maintenance is considered proactive maintenance, also known as preventative maintenance): Like other types of instruments, medical endoscopic imaging system workstations inevitably experience malfunctions due to various reasons during long-term use. Fault repair remains an important task for equipment management and engineering technicians.
